Va Va Velvet Vixen

It's luxurious, slinky, just a touch on the sexy bad-ass side and can elevate any school night tipple mischief with a fabulous dose of lustrous sass. Velvet is slinking her naughty ways back into our fashion cupboards but long gone are the days of pallid tones of yawn and instead she's injecting a feisty fierce palette of vivd colour like nothing else. It's the fabric of the Autumn/Winter season and one you won't be able to keep your hands off of - quite literally.

It's about time you cut ties with the timid little miss innocent and unleash the regal queen of misbehaviour in you by saying "I do" to this gorgeously bold myriad of flirtatious brights!

Velvet is often given a bad rep for being outdated, old-fashioned, daring, the hailed attire of the goth world or a trend that only the likes of Olivia Palermo can pull off. Oh my, oh my, don't we have some rectifying work to magic! Velvet is not to be feared like Katie Prices' newest nunga nunga 'assets' if you approach the trend with creative eyes and a seductive flair of attitude. When mixed and mingled for both looks of day or night, velvet has a simply irresistible way of adding a sense of fluid demure to an already feminine silhouette.

If you're still reading this with questionable eyes then dip your little trendy toes in gently and start off playing the game safe by opting for darker deep shades and tones like maroon reds, midnight navy and night sky blacks. In terms of style, nothing screams elegance more than a fitted velvet dress in a flirty skater style shape or a bodacious body-con hugging you tightly to make you shimmy and wiggle.

Time to dress up sumptuously classy with an attitude ferociously sassy with this luxe trend that'll guaranteed leave you feeling yourself....not like that you filthy scoundrels - leave the heavy petting for bedtime fun with your lucky catch!

Get your fingers clicking happy, your purse strings loose n'easy like a scamp and your wardrobe injected with some va-va voom with these vixen velvet high street finds...

Quit The Attitude; Play With Gratitude

"Gratitude can transform common days into thankgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings."
- William Arthur Ward

Due to a massive slice of deja-vu in the last 18 months and navigating life based on guessing what may happen in the next 24 hours, the next week or month and spending far more of my time living life in the future; I realised I was missing out big time.

It struck me as a friend was nattering away about her holiday plans for the coming week that I was 100% away in cloud coo-coo land internally squirming at the anticipation of an upcoming drinks night and already berating myself for an unfunny sarcastic comment of sass that I hadn't yet even made. My friend was enjoying our girls night over a few vodka laced tipples and I was full on charging into some future situation all in the confines of my little head.

Realising that my friend had her head cocked, straw poised in mid air and was subsequently staring at me in anticipation of saying something, I realised it was my cue to answer whatever question had been thrown my way. Drats. It was in this moment that I realised I needed to bring myself back to living life in the chill zone and taking each day; every hour as it comes and goes.

Operation Zen is about to commence in full force: I will become a laid back ball of positive energy living life in its' abundant natural unpredicatbility and I'll embrace it with wide open arms like a boho hippie high on some crackin' wacky-backy.

So without further adieu, I'm trying my hand - albeit a touch late - at a mid-way "New Years resolution" of living in the moment with contagious positivity.

The phrase living life "half glass full" comes to mind which I'm fully prepared to pour on up...half full of Vodka, if you will.

"Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for the future."
- Melody Beattle

So in the spirit of jumping on the positivity train and manifesting myself into a bright white bubble of tele-tubby giggles, giddy smiles and good vibes, here's my list of 30 simple yet sincerely misunderstood pleasures in life to be grateful for...

#1. The setbacks that make you stronger.

#2. Freedom of romance and love.

#3. Being alive; we exist for a reason so go find out why.

#4. The feeling of water on your skin when you shower.

#5. Laughter; a priceless way to mend a heavy heart.

#6. The power of a smile; A small action with abundant power to revolutionise someone's day.

#7. The sun rises and sets each and each and every day.

#8. Books; they're like a mini portable sanctury.

#9. Wisdom that comes with age.

#10. Diversity; without it the world would be a very boring place.

#11. Colour; it wakes up the world with personality.

#12. Toothpaste; garlic breath is never an attractive pheromone.

#13. Spoons; How lost would we be when faced with a box of cereal and tub of ice-cream without them?

#14. Flowers; they remind us that water provides a blossom of growth both for nature and ourselves.

#15. Gratitude itself; beauty is found in being thankful for life - the good, the bad and the ugly.

#16. Toilet Paper; The condition of your tooshie if banana leaf was your best bet isn't worth thinking about.

#17. Good hair days.

#18. When you know the answer to a question and you walk away feeling like a heroic badass.

#19. A really kick-ass, on point horoscope that has your back.

#20. Vodka. Self-explantory.

#21. A relationship full of authentic fun and sarcasm; no mind-play, no games, just simple, good fun.

#22. Tweezers; like hidden gold for a plethora of sticky situations.

#23. Inside jokes; the cruder, the better.

#24. Victoria Secret bras that provide some semblance of nunga-nungas to your usual deflated grapes.

#25. The Night sky scattered with the moon and stars; they remind us to never let go of our dreams and the magic of hope.

#26. Rainy days; oh hello pj-clad sofa sloth day with netflix and snacks.

#27. The look on your friend's face when they you find the perfect present for them to unwrap.

#28. Relishing the fact that almost everyone has an equally traumatising school-day experience.

#29. Memorable, fun adventures that occur when you least expect them to.

#30. Channing Tatum; always.

Keep Calm Cuz We Jammin': Reggae Night

So not all of us are lucky enough (or ahem...*rich enough) to be jetting off to crystal blue water pools, silky pearl sands of velvet and thoroughly abusing and indulging in a heck of a lot of sex on the beach. I'm absolutely referring to the beverage of course; clearly.

So I took myself in hand and decided to stop scrolling through my Instagram feed with eyes blazing a beautiful glaze of green and plump for the next best thing: bringing a trip to the tropics to the garden! No mercy dashes around the house trying to locate any "misplaced" passports, no frantically trying to anticipate the perfect casual-cool outfits, no suffocating under a cloud of fly repellent or restraining yourself from bitch-slapping the wailing kid in the seat behind you. Just a few skips round the garden to rustle up a setting of exotic beats, chilled-back vibes (minus the marijuana) and a reggae crew of mischief to supply the liquid goods! Easy, peasy like a lemon squeezy in your cocktail!

Get Mr Marley jammin' on the speakers, wiggle your way into something to make the boys wink, pour up the malibu and jump onto the reggae bus of one cheeky night in paradise...

Set the Scene of Carnival Serene

Reggae culture is all about the laid-back vibes, easy-breezy unsurpassed colours of red, yellow, green and black notes of ease! Get some coloured fairy lights and string them up around the garden by wrapping around trees and parasols for a night of frivolous fun under the twinkling sky night.

  • Floating water candles are also a simple, cheap and easy way of adding an air of demure, mystery and summertime romance to the alfresco atmosphere.

  • Streamers of fake banana leaves, balloons and hawaiian wreaths of exotic hibiscus flowers will elevate the experience of being cocooned in the tranquil warmth of Island time.

  • Tropical palm trees, birds of paradise, flamingos, coconuts all make for one caribbean flair. Combine these elements with raffia skirts in a range of royal blues, emerald greens, cerise yellow and punchy orange and you'll be on your way to one coral reef parade.

  • For your own glistening pool of crystal seas, why not pull out your trusty paddling pool that was your 5 year-old self's bath of endless exploration, fill it up with some fresh aqua and dip your toes into backyard mischief.

Chuck in a flamingo float of fun and it'll be like your sailing the high seas of Jamaican waves!

Sizzle, Slurp, Satisfy

Everyone knows that a rendezvous isn't worth having if there isn't sufficient fuel to get the party started so when it comes to table nosh and sweet delights to wash it down with, step up and sizzle up!
Caribbean culture adore their food and social gatherings lift into new heights when it comes to quenching tipples in the beating heat!

To really get the night flowing in style, keep to the tropical vibes and ask your guests to each bring along a typical caribbean dish so that you end up with a jam packed buffet table of pick n'mix sizzling dishes and tantalising flavours.

I've plucked out a few exotic dishes bouncing around online that'll get your tastebuds tingling and get your bloodstreams on fire:

Sumptuous Savouries...

Sticky Sweets...

Bodacious Beverages...

Now where would the fun be if you didn't get the corks poppin', ethanol shaken, stirred and poured up over some tumbling ice? Time for the naughty shenanigans flowing free n'easy by mixing up some tall chilled pitchers of fun...

Island Beats

Fire up the mischief with a playlist of thumping beats guaranteed to get your dutty hips moving, grooving and bringing the party home! If Caribbean culture was to be defined by one thing alone then music is what they do with dirty pride! Think Calypso, reggae, folk, jazz, blues and much more! There's no room to be shy and move your body tinged in self-conscious anxiety - if you're getting your tooshie on the dance floor then girl you gotta groove with all that cushin' for pushin' - no half assing anything round here!

Get the speakers turned up, grab your main squeeze and let the music move and take you to new heights...
