Pantone Colour of the Year for 2018 Is No Shrinking Violet

Leading trend forecasting and custom colour development providers Pantone, last week announced its Pantone Colour of the Year for 2018 as Pantone 18-3838, Ultra Violet.

Dramatic, enigmatic and bold, Pantone have described this vivid and space-mystique colour as communicating "originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points towards the future." A bold and deep shade, Ultra Violet oozes a touch of elegant complexity, lending to eye-catching colour combinations for trend-led industries. Ultra Violet adds an integral sense of sophistication, thus appealing to companies who seek originality and innovation through their creative personalities.

With design an integral part of commercial trade across the world, society has recognised the impact that colour has in how we connect to products and how we communicate with one another. colour has become the lynchpin in the world of trend and design and how designers can stategically communicate their vision to its consumers. Lifestyle trends covet a large influence in the design process of business. For example, last year's Pantone Colour of the Year was Greenery, a symbolic colour of refreshing, reviving and renewing; all elements that complimented the popular 2017 Scandinavian art of "Hygge."

Full of character and emotion, Pantone 18-3838 has long been associated with empowerment and self-expression. Mysterious and symbolic of the mysteries of inter-galactic space, shades of Ultra Violet have long been worn by artistic western icons such as David Bowie and Prince; key industry figures known for their non-conformity and their experimentation to push the creative boundaries with their musical artistry.

Since the year 2000, the Pantone Color Institute has been recognised as the global colour trend consultants for companies worldwide. For years Pantone's Colour of the Year has shaped the product development and strategic leverage of brand identity within multiple industries, from fashion, industrial technological design to interior home furnishings.

Selecting a new colour each year requires extensive trend analysis from Pantone's colour experts who scour the globe in search of new influences within design. Such sources of inspiration range from emerging new technologies, upcoming seasonal trends, textile prints and textures, popular travel destinations to in-vogue social media platforms that have captured attention worldwide.

Leatrice Eisemen, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute commented, "We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is the kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level."

Leatrice further added, "From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come. Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead and the discoveries beyond where we are enow. The Vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own."
